What are we learning about this Term?

Where Does Our Food Come From?

This term in Geography, we are exploring a big question: Where does our food come from? Pupils will investigate how the food we eat is connected to places all around the world and the environments in which different foods grow.

What We’ll Be Learning

  • Biomes and food production: We will look at the world’s major biomes—such as rainforests, deserts, grasslands, and temperate forests—and discover which foods grow best in each environment.
  • Global food journeys: Pupils will trace the journey food takes from farm to fork, learning how climate, soil, and human activity shape what can be grown in different regions.
  • Impact on people and places: We will evaluate the effects of food production on communities and environments. This includes both positive impacts (such as jobs and economic growth) and negative impacts (such as deforestation, pollution, or water use).

Why This Matters

Understanding where our food comes from helps pupils make sense of the world around them. It encourages them to think about sustainability, global connections, and the choices we make every day.
