All members of staff have responsibility for child protection. Legislation means that we have a duty to report any concerns that we may have that a child may be suffering from harm. Our designated person has been trained and can be trusted to deal with all matters with professional confidentiality and sensitivity. All staff receive training in child protection procedures.
The school aims to encourage children to develop self-discipline in their work and behaviour and to accept responsibility for their own actions. Within an orderly, relaxed and friendly atmosphere, learning can take place more effectively.
We believe in a positive approach, encouraging good behaviour and attitudes by rewarding and praising whenever possible. Behavioural expectations are clearly explained and applied consistently by all members of staff.
Children displaying inappropriate behaviour are given the opportunity to modify their behaviour and learn from their mistakes. Individual behaviour plans and tailored intervention programmes are created for children equiring additional support.
School Codes of Behaviour are displayed in each classroom, sanctions used within the school are clearly identified within the policy.
It is the aim of the school to enable all children to reach their full potential. From time to time, some children have some kind of special educational need.
The class teacher and SENDCO monitor children carefully to ensure that, when necessary, action is taken to support specific needs.
We work closely with outside agencies such as, Speech Therapists, School Nurse, Educational Psychologist and Behavioural Support Services, who are called upon to advise, help, support and assist both teachers and parents. Parents are fully informed and involved in this process.
Mid-morning snack – Children under 5 are provided with a carton of milk each day and parents of children over 5 are given the opportunity to purchase milk from our provider. All Nursery, Reception and Key Stage 1 children are provided with fruit daily. A healthy snack may be sent from home (not sweets or crisps).
Occasionally, we experience unforeseen circumstances such as, severe weather, which may cause us to close the school. If this happens we will put up an announcement on the local radio and update our school website.
Monkshouse Primary Academy is a no smoking establishment, and we respectfully remind all visitors that we do not allow smoking which include E-cigarettes anywhere in school, or on the school grounds.
