Governance

Welcome from our Chair of Governors

Welcome to our school website—an invitation to discover who we are, what we stand for, and the values that shape our community.

At Monkshouse Primary Academy, we are committed to providing every child with a high-quality education through a rich, stimulating curriculum. Our aim is to nurture confident, curious, and well-rounded young people who are equipped to reach their full potential—academically, socially, and emotionally.

We firmly believe that education is a shared journey—one built on strong partnerships between home and school. We warmly encourage parents and carers to be actively involved in their child’s learning, knowing that your support and engagement make a lasting difference. Ours is a school that truly welcomes you in—not just to observe, but to contribute. Whether through sharing your skills, experiences, or simply your time, your presence enriches our children’s education and strengthens our community.

As Chair of Governors at Monkshouse Primary Academy, I take great pride in celebrating the achievements of our children and staff. Their dedication, creativity, and resilience shine through in all they do, and there is much that our school community can rightly be proud of. From academic progress to personal growth, from classroom triumphs to wider contributions, these successes reflect the heart and spirit of Monkshouse.

The strength of any school lies in its people. At Monkshouse, we are fortunate to have a vibrant, dedicated team whose collective expertise spans both curriculum subjects and a rich array of extra-curricular interests. Under the guidance of our retiring Principal, Mrs Goodsell, they have grown not only as educators but as a united force—learning from her wisdom, leadership, and unwavering commitment.

As we turn the page to a new chapter, we warmly welcome Mr Andrew Clarke as our new Principal. He brings with him a wealth of experience and insight, and together with his team, will continue to build on our school’s strengths—driving improvement, nurturing talent, and stretching performance to ensure every child thrives.

Working in close partnership with Mr Clarke, the Governing Body provides a strong and balanced leadership structure—one that both supports and challenges where needed. Together, we are committed to driving the school forward, fostering a happy, well-run environment where children and staff alike can flourish.

We hope your family will join us and become part of that vision.

Structure and Remit

he Role of the Governing Body is strategic in nature,  The Department for Education’s Governance Handbook identifies three core functions, being:-
