Welcome to Swifts Class
We are a Year 3 class taught by Miss Tawn.
I love teaching art and guided reading. Watching children create and discover stories is always exciting. I enjoy seeing their curiosity and imagination grow.

What are we learning about this Term?
Are All Settlements the Same?
This term, Year 3 will be exploring the fascinating world of settlements. Children will investigate what settlements are, how they grow, and why people choose to live in different places.
What Is a Settlement?
Children will learn:
- What a settlement is
- The different types of settlements (villages, towns, cities)
- How and why settlements develop over time
They will explore the features that make each settlement unique, from the buildings and transport links to the natural environment around them.
Comparing Spalding and New Delhi
Using their geographical skills, children will compare:
- Spalding, our local area
- New Delhi, a major city in India
They will use:
- Maps
- Photographs
- Aerial images
to investigate how land is used in both places and to understand the similarities and differences between a local English town and a large, busy city in Asia.
Building Geographical Skills
Throughout the unit, children will:
- Use maps, atlases and digital tools
- Interpret photos and diagrams
- Ask and answer geographical questions
- Develop their understanding of human and physical geography
By the end of the term, they will be able to explain confidently whether all settlements are the same – and why not.
