Welcome to Skylarks Class
We are a Year 2 class taught by Mr Addison.
I have been a primary school teacher for 13 years but this is my first year teaching Key Stage One! I joined Monkshouse Academy in 2023 and really enjoy the caring community that we have built at our school.
I am a real animal lover – I’m up early every morning tending to my two horses and three parrots before school. I enjoy reading science fiction and fantasy books in my spare time, as well as painting and juggling. I have completed a round the world trip, visiting countries such as Japan, Taiwan, New Zealand and the USA. I am a music fanatic and enjoy attending music concerts, especially if it involves heavy metal!
You might also see me outside on the playground before and after school running the book fair to raise funds for books for our classrooms.

What are we learning about this Term?
Why Is Our World Wonderful?
This term, the children will be exploring the question “Why is our world wonderful?” They will discover some of the UK’s most amazing natural and human features, before widening their view to look at incredible places around the world. Through maps, images, stories, and fieldwork, the children will begin to understand what makes different environments special and worth protecting.
What the children will be learning
- Amazing places in the UK — learning about famous landscapes, landmarks, and natural wonders across the country.
- Wonderful places around the world — exploring deserts, rainforests, mountains, oceans, and other global environments.
- Naming and locating oceans — using maps and globes to identify the world’s major oceans and understand where they are.
- Fieldwork skills — observing the school grounds and local area to investigate different habitats and the plants and animals that live there.
- Understanding habitats — thinking about why certain creatures live where they do and how environments meet their needs.
