Ospreys

Welcome to Ospreys Class

PE days for Term 3 are:

MONDAYS & TUESDAYS

We are a Year 6 class taught by Mr McHugh.

I love football and watch it as much as I can when I can win back control of the TV from my son and daughter! I enjoy cooking up new meals, which have gone down well in Year 6 in recent years, especially the naan bread pizzas!

What are we learning about this Term?

What Can the Census Tell Us About Local Areas?

This term, children will be using census records to uncover how people lived in the past and how communities have changed over time. By studying census information from different periods, they will learn to make thoughtful inferences about everyday life in local areas.

What the Children Will Explore

  • Victorian life and work: Using census entries, children investigate the types of jobs people had during the Victorian era and what this reveals about society at the time.
  • The suffrage movement: They examine how census data can highlight the roles and identities of women before they gained the right to vote.
  • The interwar period: Children explore how life changed between the First and Second World Wars, using census records to understand shifts in families, occupations, and communities.

Understanding the Census

  • Children look at how the census has changed over time and why these changes matter.
  • They consider the usefulness and limitations of census data—what it can tell us, and what it cannot.

Local Historical Enquiry

To bring their learning closer to home, pupils will plan and carry out their own investigation into who lived in the area around their school in the past. This helps them connect national history with their own community.
