PE days for Term 5 are:
MONDAYS & THURSDAYS
We are a Year 1 class taught by Mrs Jensen.
We are one of two Year 1 classes at Monkshouse where we love to learn as we play.
We like to stay as active as we can during the day and especially love time to run between our lessons. We are great at junk modelling and have some great ideas for inventions. It is amazing what we can make from egg boxes and Sellotape!
What are we learning about this Term?
Exploring Our Local Area
In Year 1, we will be learning all about where we live and the world around us. Children will explore their local area, looking closely at the human features (things people have made) and physical features (natural things).
Learning About Our Local Area
Children will:
- Go on local walks to spot human and physical features
- Talk about what makes our area special
- Use simple maps and photographs to describe what they see
Using Google Maps
We will use Google Maps to help us:
- Find our school and our homes on a map
- See where we live in the United Kingdom
- Look at our town from above using satellite images
Comparing Our Home to Shanghai, China
We will also learn about Shanghai, a city in China, which is in the continent of Asia. Children will compare:
- What our local area looks like
- What Shanghai looks like
- How people live, work, and travel in both places
This helps children understand that the world is a big place with many different environments and ways of living.
