Our Approach
At our school, we deliver Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education and Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) through the SCARF PSHE scheme, a comprehensive, values-based programme that supports children’s personal development from Reception through to Year 6.
SCARF is built around five key themes: Safety, Caring, Achievement, Resilience and Friendship. These core values underpin our whole-school ethos and are woven into everyday learning, helping children to feel safe, supported and ready to succeed.
Our approach is inclusive, age-appropriate and evidence-informed. Lessons are engaging and interactive, encouraging pupils to explore real-life situations, develop emotional literacy, and build the skills they need to make positive choices—both now and in the future.
We place strong emphasis on mental health and wellbeing, respectful relationships, and developing independence, ensuring every child feels valued and empowered.
Vision in Action
Our vision comes to life through a consistent, whole-school commitment to the SCARF values. Pupils are encouraged to:
- Stay Safe by understanding how to manage risks in different contexts, including online
- Care for Others through kindness, empathy and respect
- Achieve Their Best by developing confidence and a positive mindset
- Show Resilience when faced with challenges
- Build Friendships based on trust and mutual respect
Through carefully planned lessons, assemblies, and everyday interactions, children actively practise these values. They learn to communicate openly, manage their emotions, and contribute positively to their community.
By embedding SCARF across school life, we nurture confident, responsible and compassionate individuals who are well-prepared for the next stage of their education and for life beyond the classroom.
