Spring has sprung!
Spring has sprung and the Monkshouse Minis are thoroughly enjoying exploring and discovering new plants and creepy crawlies in our wonderful outdoor area. There has been a buzz of excitement coming from all the children as they have discovered lovelinesses of ladybirds, counted spots and watched as they have started to wake up and crawl across leaves and even brave and gentle hands.
We started this term by enriching our learning environment with activities and play themes based on transport. The children told us that this is something they love and they really did enjoy learning through this theme. They developed and combined their technology and construction skills by creating tracks with obstacles and lego bridges for remote control cars. They have developed their cutting skills and fine motor skills by scooping and exploring with dumper trucks and diggers. The sit-on-digger was a huge hit in the outdoor sand pit. The children had to work their arm muscles and work out how to coordinate each arm to scoop up, transport and dump sand in different areas. It was a great challenge!
We are very proud of how well the Monkshouse Minis have progressed with their early writing. We use Dough Disco and Squiggle While You Wiggle which are two fun and engaging programmes to develop the muscles needed for writing. After each session the children transfer those dance based muscle movements into mark making movements, creating a range of shapes with pens on large paper. It has been wonderful to see the children choosing to use their new skills in their independent writing and drawing. Lots of the children are eager to write their own name, especially on things that they have made in the creative area. Our phonics sessions are really supporting the children develop these letter writing skills.
Once again, we would like to thank all our families for the many uploads onto Tapestry. We have seen the children's confidence soar as they take turns to speak about what they have done at the weekends and over half term holidays. Thank you!
We are excited to continue the rest of our learning journey this term; exploring, discovering, creating and enjoying learning through child led play.
