Mrs Jarvis and Mrs Potter Year 3 - Swifts

Hello and welcome to our class blog! We are the Swifts class.

Our class teachers are Mrs Jarvis (Monday and Tuesday) and Mrs Potter (Wednesday, Thursday and Friday) and we are supported by our teaching assistants Mrs McHugh, Mrs Samuoliene (1:1) and Mrs Bridge (1:1).

We are looking forward to our year 3 adventure exploring many amazing topics!

Terms 4 and 5 - Shake, Rattle & Roll

Overwhelming and mighty, Mother Nature’s awesome energies hiss and roar deep within the Earth. Plates collide, spewing lava. Rocks rain down and mud slides in torrents. Towns and cities vanish under ashen clouds.  Discover the dangerous and ferocious world of natural disasters and glimpse their savage and deadly effects.

In our English lesson today,Y3 went outside and learnt a letter off by heart. We also did some drama alongside. It was great to see the children enjoying their English so much.

Varjak books arrive! 26.04.22

Today we received an exciting package! It was our signed Varjak Paw books from the author SF Said. Some of us were so excited to read that we've started already during our library time: we met two new characters in the book and enjoyed looking at our signed message from SF Said! Very exciting.

Roman WOW Day! - 22.04.22

On Friday, Year 3 had a spectacular day called Roman Day!

We came to school in fabulous Roman costumes and began the day by designing our very own Roman shield.

We then took part in different activities, such as cooking (delicious pancakes), gladiator training, making our own mosaic tile, creating laurel wreaths and making an exciting film trailer.

In the afternoon, we all sat in the Colosseum to watch well trained gladiators compete in the ultimate final tournament.

It was a fun-packed day with lots of creative and inspiring activities. What a great start to term 5!

Varjak Paw author visit! - 24.03.22

Just before the Easter holidays, Year 3 were extremely excited to find out that we would be having an author visit our class virtually - author SF Said who writes Varjak Paw. We have been reading this story in class over the past couple of months and the children have absolutely loved the story. Some of the children have ordered a signed second copy of the book too which will be arriving any day now!

The children got to ask SF Said lots of questions about his story and the writing process and I think they were surprised to find out how long it actually takes to write a book and how much he had to persevere to get his book published! What a wonderful afternoon.
