Mr McHugh Year 6 - Falcons
Welcome to the Falcons' class page
Mr McHugh (Teacher)
Mrs Williamson (Teaching Assistant)
Throughout the year, we will be updating our progress so please check in to see how we're getting on!
Good links for helping your child at home:
BBC Bitesize KS2
A good website which covers all subjects we teach throughout the year. I suggest this is your go-to website for understanding the vocabulary that is used in the curriculum.
We use Doodle Maths as our online homework for Maths. Doodle Maths works specifically on the needs of each individual child. We ask the children do a little bit often to help develop these mathematical skills and to support their progress through the school year.
TT Rock Stars
We use TTRS on a daily basis and ask the children to do so at home too. Those children who are still securing their understanding of multiplication and division facts (up to the 12x tables) will be asked to complete daily Garage games on the app. Once they have shown they have completed all possible levels on Garage, they will be notified by Mr McHugh who will then ask them to focus on Studio games which targets their speed of recall.
Term 5 - Mystery of the Maya
The children will discover the mysterious world of the ancient Maya civilisation. It's time to locate their lost cities, find out about their religion, the technology they used and follow all of their curious rituals. Did the Maya disappear in 900AD? Let’s find out!
27/04/22 - Archaeological Dig
To kickstart our Mystery of the Maya topic, we headed to the school Archaeological Dig to become historians. We found a series of items from different periods of history and were able to order them chronologically using our inference skills. To begin with, we dug into the ground carefully (to make sure we didn’t break any findings. Then, we sieved the soil or sand to see if we had found any artefacts lurking beneath! Our photos show us digging away as well as the objects we found during the activity!
Archaeologists of the future!
25/04/22 - Gardening
We’ve been weeding our raised beds ready to plant our sweet peas this term. We loved this activity and enjoyed learning about maintaining plants once they’ve been planted and the care we need to give them by getting rid of those weeds!
Gardening in action!
Terms 1 - 4
With our timelines, the children manipulated a series of events related to Windrush. They moved events around which opened up discussions about the ordering of events and those that may have been a consequence of those that came before.
Scale Factors (playground style)
We went outdoors for our scale factor lesson in maths! Equipped with chalk, the children went about producing their own shapes with a series of measurements. They were challenged to show how their shape would be enlarged as a result of the scale factors provided. As the lesson progressed, the children engaged with other groups and had a go at working out the scale factor they had used with the change in size of the shapes presented. It was great to see all of the children working so well together !
DT - Buzzer game
Building on their previous electricity learning, the children have created some fantastic electric buzzer games in DT this term. They were tasked with creating working circuits; either ensuring that their buzzer and/or LED bulbs worked correctly. They have done so well on this so please take a look through our photos at the results!
